About Soil Capital

The Soil Capital programme is designed to support farmers in transitioning to more profitable and regenerative agriculture. Starting with a baseline, and annual assessments thereafter, farms that reduce their greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions or sequester additional carbon in their soils, will generate verified carbon certifications or SCU's (Soil Capital Units). These SCU's are then bought by companies looking to improve the resilience of their supply chains, paying farmers for their essential contribution to soil health, climate change mitigation and food security.
Soil Capital’s support for farmers looking to introduce more resilient and profitable practices allows participating farms to apply for the Oxbury Transition Facility simply using the extensive data already collected as part of the programme.
What is the Oxbury Transition Facility?
The Oxbury Transition Facility is the first of its kind for UK farming businesses. It provides flexible funding to help farmers manage cash flow and capital needs while making changes intended to support lower-emission and more resilient farming.
With growing pressure from climate change, government policies, and supply chain demands, Oxbury recognises the need for financial support to help farmers adopt sustainable practices. The facility financially incentivises and rewards to who are transitioning – or planning to transition – to practical on-farm changes that can support progress towards lower-emission and nature-friendly farming.
Beyond access to finance, the Oxbury Transition Facility helps farmers measure and demonstrate the impact of their changes. It includes:
- Carbon Footprints: Required at the outset and throughout the transition to track emissions reductions
- Earth Observation: Once the application has been successful, Oxbury offers customers access to a free soil organic carbon insight service in partnership with Downforce Technologies that uses satellite data and farm-level information to help provide a clearer picture of soil organic carbon on the farm.
- Data Sharing: Evidence of sustainable improvements can be shared with supply chain partners and government bodies to demonstrate positive environmental outcomes
Oxbury offers flexible financing options based on the stage of your transition:
- Exploring & Planning: A facility of up to two years for those in the early stages of change
- Implementing & Advancing: A facility of up to six years for those actively transitioning and expanding their plans
